Chlorophytum Ocean
The Chlorophytum Ocean is believed to remove toxins and help to improve the quality of air around us. A type of Spider Plant, it is a great looking specimen that can add colour and unusualness to any garden, balcony or room. A native of tropical and Southern Africa, this is a species that has travelled just about every part of the world, spreading it’s goodness.
Adopting and caring for a Spider Plant
Adding a lush, well-grown Chlorophytum to a plant collection is a feeling only a plant parent can understand. At eplants, we bring you display-ready plants with high-quality growth, compact shape and well-formed leaves
Locating
Spider Plants do best in areas with indirect light, or indoors where there is adequate natural or artificial light. Direct sun will bleach or burn the leaves of these plants. Locating them in areas with medium to high humidity is the best for these plants
Potting
Spider Plants do well in well-drained soil that can hold some moisture. A 50:30:20 mixture of coco-peat, leaf-mould and sand will help them thrive
Watering
These plants dislike drying out, so water them two or three times a week. Do a finger test every other day to check if the soil is too dry. If the leaves are droopy, the plant is thirsty and asking for water. Water generously and make sure the excess water drains off.
Fertilising
If your potting mix is right, Spider Plants do not require too much fertiliser. However, nourishing them with an organic liquid fertiliser two or three times a year will help them do well. If you are using a chemical mix, ensure that they don’t touch the leaves or they will burn.

Grown in a pot or in a hanging basket, a well cared for Spider Plant evokes the aura of the Victorian Age where they popped up in well-lit verandas and greenhouses. They are easy to care? for and propagate, and add an air of nostalgia to any garden.
Did you know
Unlike many flowering houseplants whose moment of glory may last only a week or two, a spider plant can provide year-round pleasure.
